    History

Gallery Mie Lefever was founded in 2005 as the result of a private sponsored ‘artist in residence’ project
    for young Romanian artists.
While living in Romania ( 2002/2003),we experienced the lack of private galleries, alternative art spaces
and institutions, and the almost complete absence of international interaction and exchange at that time.
With that experience we started to invite artists in Belgium.
The residence of four young artists (in each case from 6 to 8 weeks) made us dream of a space to show
    their work.
When we had the opportunity to buy a house with annex in the vicinity of Gent, we decided to transform
the annex into an exhibition space.
The opening exhibition was in November 2005, in which two of the four ‘residence artists’ have participated.
Since, new contacts were established in Romania –more specific Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca- and a program     was made up.
The gallery concentrates on introducing and supporting young talented artists (in principle born after 1975)
at the beginning of their career, with special interest for contemporary art in Romania.
The gallery wants to give an audience to these artists –Belgian and international- to show their work and go
    in dialog with a public.
Out of personal interest, accent is on painting, without excluding other media. The gallery doesn’t follow a
trend or special style; authenticity and personality of the artist prevail. In this way the gallery will display
    more various artists.
The gallery intends to bring four exhibitions a year.
